Those who know Driekleur-Besturingen primarily for new control solutions see only part of the field of operation. In practice, the organization moves between diverse assignments, from malfunctions and maintenance to expansions and complete installations. Precisely this variation determines how installers deal with controls.
In the first quarter of 2026, this became very apparent. The work ranged from relatively simple interventions to complex multi-party projects. According to Jethro van Veelen, Commercial Technical Engineer at Driekleur, that says something about the role of controls in the field. “It rarely remains only with new construction. Many installations continue to evolve and require modifications, maintenance or expansion.”
In a project in Vlissingen, this was clearly evident. Driekleur supplied a complete control system for blinds there several years ago. When the blinds were recently replaced, the team adapted the existing installation, de-energized it for the work and added additional local controls. The existing installation remained in use and was purposefully expanded without rebuilding the system.
That control does not stop after delivery is also evident in maintenance work. In Boskoop, Driekleur performed maintenance at a healthcare facility, where the team checked settings and tested functions, among other things. They discovered that the weather station was not only outdated, but also defective. By replacing it and expanding it with a wind direction sensor, the system again responds accurately to changing conditions.
“These are often not major interventions, but they do have a direct impact on the reliability of the system,” says Van Veelen. “Especially with automatic blinds, it is important that everything stays right, otherwise you notice it immediately in use.”
This also plays into more complex installations. In a multifunctional building in Vlissingen, Driekleur solved malfunctions in a KNX-controlled system. In the process, the team updated several lines and controllers and made software modifications. Such optimizations keep installations stable and prepare them for future modifications.
In addition to maintenance and optimization, troubleshooting remains an important part of the work. In Franeker, a party called in Driekleur for an existing installation that was no longer functioning. On site, the power transformer turned out to be defective. By purposefully replacing it, the system quickly regained its function. “Then you see how important it is that you can quickly analyze where the problem is, and proceed to repair,” says Driekleur.”
At the other end of the spectrum are projects in which control is built from the ground up. For a large educational institution in Amsterdam, Driekleur realized a complete KNX installation, from engineering to programming and delivery. In the process, the team continuously coordinated with other parties. “In projects like this, the complexity is not only in the technology, but especially in the cooperation. You depend on each other in planning and execution.”
Between those extremes is much of the daily work. In Leiden, for example, Driekleur found a practical solution to a connection that no longer matched the new position of blinds. By utilizing existing penetrations and hiding cabling out of sight, the team adapted the installation without major modifications.
