New surface-mounted roller shutter focuses on energy efficiency and ease of installation and maintenance
The construction industry is facing increasingly stringent energy performance requirements, while aesthetics also remain extremely important. With the launch of the OB930, Harol In response, we’ve introduced a new surface-mounted roller shutter for new construction and renovation projects. The system was developed with one clear vision: to create a surface-mounted roller shutter that prioritizes energy efficiency, is easy to install, can be maintained effortlessly, and integrates perfectly into any architectural style. The combination of advanced insulation, smart installation techniques, a well-thought-out maintenance concept, and high-quality finishes makes the OB930 a new generation of surface-mounted roller shutters, developed with today’s and tomorrow’s construction challenges in mind.
The OB930’s ThermoCore frame is built around a core of EPS, a lightweight and strong insulation material with excellent thermal properties. Thanks to its direct mounting on the window frame, thermal bridges and drafts are minimized. This results in an insulation value of up to U = 0.42 W/m2K, thereby contributing to improved energy efficiency and greater living comfort.
At the same time, the insulated cabinet helps limit sound transmission from the outside to the inside, with an acoustic insulation rating of Rw = 47 dB. In addition, the cabinet can be equipped with an extra 30- or 95-mm-thick EPS layer. In addition, there is a choice of 5 different casing finishes: EPS exterior panel, aluminum exterior panel, PVC exterior panel, PVC exterior panel with aluminum trim, and a finish without an exterior panel. Harol thus offers a suitable solution for homes in areas with higher noise levels, BEN-certified homes, and other energy-efficient new construction and renovation projects.
The development of the OB930 focused not only on the end user but also on ease of installation. Thanks to the Click & Fix mounting system, the casing simply clicks into place on the window profile, and only the tracks need to be installed. This results in faster installation, automatic positioning of the casing, and a perfect fit with the window frame. In addition, the screwless locking mechanism of the base profile and the well-thought-out design ensure even more efficient installation on-site.

The new roller shutter is available in widths up to 4,000 mm or, when joined, up to 5,000 mm, with a maximum height of 3,000 mm and a maximum surface area of 9 m2. In addition, the OB930 complies with EN 13659 and offers excellent resistance to wind loads; the roller shutter achieves a wind resistance rating of up to Class 6, depending on the slat selection and the width of the surface-mounted roller shutter. Performance is a priority even in the smallest details. For example, the rubber seal on the bottom slat and the black brushes with a center fin in the side guides ensure maximum light blockage and years of trouble-free operation.
In addition to ease of installation, the focus was also on simplifying maintenance. Various technologies work together to make components more accessible and minimize the time required for service. For example, EasyRelease and Quicklock ensure easier installation and servicing, providing improved access to the motor and shaft and allowing for unobstructed cable routing. In addition, the spring-loaded shaft plug makes it easier to remove and reinstall the shaft, allowing for faster and more efficient maintenance and repairs.
It is precisely the synergy of these various innovations that takes the OB930 to the next level: each component has been designed to make installation, use, and maintenance as efficient and sustainable as possible.
Two different maintenance options are available, tailored to the home, the installation, and the desired finish. The version with internal servicing allows for maintenance from inside the home. This solution is particularly well-suited for roller shutters installed at greater heights. With external access, the service hatch is located on the outside, ensuring that the interior finish remains completely seamless.
“With the OB930, we didn’t just want to develop a better surface-mounted roller shutter; we wanted to rethink the entire system. We needed to raise the bar in terms of energy performance, installation, maintenance, and finish,” said Jan Habex, R&D Manager at Harol.
Harol is therefore proud of the result: a forward-looking surface-mounted roller shutter that combines technical performance, ease of installation, ease of maintenance, and architectural sophistication into a single, integrated system.

The roller shutter can be fully customized to match the exterior trim of any home. All components are finished with a durable powder coating, applied in Harol’s own environmentally friendly powder coating facility. In addition, there is a wide selection of RAL colors and textured finishes to choose from, which can be carefully combined with one another. This ensures that the housing, guides, and slats form a harmonious whole that seamlessly complements the home’s aesthetic.
An Eye for Design
The OB930 was designed with a focus on high-quality architectural integration. That is why every visible and invisible component of the OB930 was developed with an eye for aesthetics, durability, and architectural integration. Thanks to screwless service panels, seamlessly integrated stops, slim guides, five different cabinet finishes, and an extensive color palette, the OB930 can be seamlessly integrated into a variety of architectural styles.
