Romazo is actively committed to the future of the sun protection industry. Its focus is on two key areas: education and advocacy. More well-trained professionals are needed. At the same time, Romazo aims to raise the profile of sun protection on the political agenda.
There is a high demand for well-trained sunshade installers. That is why Romazo is working on various initiatives to increase the number of people entering the industry. In 2025, the “Sunshade Installer” elective was launched as a pilot program at a regional vocational college (ROC) in the Netherlands. The elective is part of the regular curriculum. To date, 15 students have successfully completed the elective. The initial results are positive. As a result, Romazo is exploring opportunities to further expand the educational offerings.
For example, Romazo is in talks with the Barneveld Technical Training Institute. This vocational school trains young people to become technicians in various technical fields. In addition, Romazo is collaborating with three other industries on a broader initiative for technical vocational schools. The goal is to introduce training programs at ten vocational schools throughout the Netherlands. If this approach proves successful, the initiative could be expanded to a total of forty vocational schools. In this way, Romazo aims to introduce more young people to the profession of sun protection technician. This is important because the industry urgently needs new skilled workers.
In addition to education, Romazo advocates for the industry’s interests in political and government circles. Romazo is part of the Overheating Coalition, an initiative of Gezond Binnen, Romazo, and Verofale. The coalition advocates for measures that can prevent or limit overheating in homes and buildings.
A key topic in this regard is the Sustainable Energy and Energy Savings Investment Subsidy, better known as the ISDE. This subsidy program encourages measures that reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions in homes and buildings and improve energy performance. According to the Coalition Against Overheating, the proposed regulation for 2027 is still missing a key measure. Sunshades are currently not eligible for subsidies as a heat-blocking measure against overheating.
The coalition believes that sun protection deserves a place in this discussion. After all, sun protection can help keep heat out and thus limit the warming of homes. In early October, the Coalition Against Overheating will therefore submit a petition to the House of Representatives. Through this petition, the coalition aims to draw attention to the role of sun protection in preventing overheating. The goal is to ensure that sun protection is also eligible for subsidies under the ISDE program in the future.
Retrieved from October 7 and 8 Romazo will be present at the Sun Protection Expo in Houten.
Members and other interested companies are welcome to visit our booth. We’d be happy to tell you more about our activities in the areas of education, recruitment, and advocacy.
In this way, Romazo continues to work toward ensuring a sufficient supply of skilled workers and a strong position in the sun protection market.
