Wired motors still play an important role in the market for screens and roller shutters. Both in residential construction and in commercial projects, this control method is often deliberately chosen. At the same time, demands for safety, reliability, and ease of installation are increasing. With the Wake E300 and E300S from Stella Advanced Technology, Smits Rolluiken en Zonwering combines these features in a new generation of wired motors.
The Wake E300 is designed for roller shutters, and the E300S for screens. Both combine attractive pricing with intelligent features such as advanced obstacle detection, resistance-free closing, and frost protection. As a result, they offer functionalities typically found in more sophisticated electronic motors, but at the price point of a traditional mechanical motor. This allows dealers to offer their customers more functionality and safety without requiring a higher upfront investment.
A key feature of both Wake motors is their advanced obstacle detection. As soon as the motor detects unusual resistance while closing, the system intervenes. This minimizes the risk of damage to both the awning and the obstacle. According to Joris Koppens, Manager of Research & Development, the added value lies primarily in the combination of safety and product protection.
“A screen or roller shutter is used every day. Because resistance is detected in a timely manner and the system intervenes automatically, both the user and the product are protected. And that contributes to years of trouble-free operation.” The resistance-free closing mechanism also contributes to a longer service life. The motor reduces the load when the end position is reached, allowing the product to come to a controlled stop. This reduces mechanical stress and wear. In addition, both motors feature frost protection, ensuring that no unnecessary force is applied when a screen or roller shutter is frozen shut.
During development, special attention was paid to the technician’s workflow. The E300 comes with preprogrammed settings for roller shutters, and the E300S for screens. The end positions can be adjusted using an adjustment cable without opening the housing. This makes on-site adjustment easier and more efficient. The installer can work faster, while also reducing the risk of errors during installation and adjustment. This can provide a clear advantage, especially on larger projects. For dealers, this translates to immediate commercial value: a motor that is easy to adjust and less prone to malfunctions can save installation time and help reduce the number of service calls.
Whereas dealers often had to opt for a higher-priced electronic motor to get additional smart features, Wake offers these capabilities at the price point of a mechanical LT motor. This creates a clear selling point for the end user: more protection and smart features, without immediately moving up to a higher price range. Smits therefore no longer positions the smart wired motor as an upgrade, but as a logical staple within the product line. The Wake E300 and E300S are part of the Stella Advanced Technology product line. More than 1.4 million wired motors have now been sold in Europe. The motors are developed and manufactured in Europe, comply with NF, GS, and CE certifications, and come with a seven-year warranty.
