In the Binckhorst district of The Hague is Bink36, a historic building that houses creative enterprises, start-ups and technology companies. The top floor houses restaurant The Harbour Club. It offers its guests an impressive view of The Hague's skyline.
In the summer of 2020, a conservatory was built on part of the terrace. A large screen system from sun protection manufacturer markilux provides shade in the glass extension. General Manager Pieter Smit of The Harbour Club is particularly pleased, because his guests not only enjoy the beautiful view more often and for longer, but also the cozy atmosphere under the screens.
"We chose the Markilux 8800 greenhouse screen because it is a quality product and also very wind stable. The latter is necessary because we are located high above street level," Smit said. "The awning system consists of three coupled screens, fitted with the tracfix system for good fabric tension. Because it crosses over, it provides optimal sun protection. In addition, it helps create a cozy atmosphere on the patio."
Weinschmiede 18 belongs to Weingut Tscherne-Strauss in Gamlitz, about 50 kilometers south of Graz. Over three years ago, the historic building was converted into a new guest venue and tasting room. This year, the outdoor terrace received a modern awning from markilux.
"The renovation of Weinschmiede 18 was carried out while preserving the historic character of the building," says Bettina Strauss, who runs the wine estate with her husband. In the Buschenschank, they offer their own wines. For the over 40 m2 outdoor terrace with a view of the surrounding vineyards, they chose the pergola stretch awning system from markilux. With two systems, the entire terrace is covered.
"We can now also offer our guests optimal protection from rain and wind outside, in design and color matching the building," said Bettina Strauss. "In addition, with the integrated LED lighting and built-in heat emitters, the terrace can be used longer in the evening."
In Kirchdorf in Tyrol, the Oberhabach hotel and farm is the perfect vacation destination. To provide guests with more comfort, the terrace was equipped with three linked terrace covers totaling 107 m2 to replace the parasols used until then. "We recommended our pergola stretch to the Seiwald family," says sales manager Jan Kattenbeck of markilux. "The system is particularly suitable for large catering terraces."
In addition to the size, the design of the installation was also important because it was not allowed to detonate with the traditional Tyrolean architecture and/or landscape. "Partly for this reason, a brown frame was chosen that harmonizes with the wood construction in the facades," said the sales manager. "The system is semi-detached and carefully anchored to the supporting beams in the front facade."
The terrace now seats more than 50 guests. LED lighting enhances the use of the canopies. "They fit in perfectly with the building and the owners are very satisfied," concludes Kattenbeck, who sees his team's thorough consultation : project as one of markilux's strengths.
In Hunter Valley in New South Wales in southeastern Australia lies the Brokenwood wine estate, one of the best known in the country. To accommodate excursions and wine tastings, the estate's outdoor terrace was fitted with a screen system from manufacturer markilux in October 2021. The entire system was installed within two working days! The newly designed space can now be used in all weather conditions.
"The system consists of three markilux markant systems covering almost 180 m2, with four markilux 970 awnings also mounted on the sides and front," says Neil Marot, managing director of markilux's Australian subsidiary. This combination offers maximum flexibility to shade the entire area or just part of it. To enhance the possibilities of use, the whole is equipped with dimmable LED lighting and heat emitters.
A modern design of the system was important to the client in order to emphasize the subtle natural wooden cladding of the buildings. In addition, weather resistance played a role because in subtropical New South Wales throughout the year not only a lot of sunshine must be taken into account, but also rain.
