Somfy Netherlands introduces roller shutters as insulation

Somfy Netherlands wants to raise awareness of shutters because, according to its own research, they can reduce consumers' rising energy bills (and carbon footprint). The window decoration in question increases the insulation value in the home and saves at least ten percent on energy bills, according to its own research.

Dutch households are looking en masse for ways to reduce the sizeable chunk of their monthly purchasing power. This starts with reducing the amount of gas they consume each month. Somfy Netherlands is committed to shedding new light on shutters. “Research has shown that shutters significantly increase the insulation value of a window unit. The savings can be as much as ten percent in energy costs,” Somfy said. 

The savings in amounts 

On average, a household uses about 1254 cubic meters of gas annually, according to figures from Nibud. With an average rate of 86.76 euro cents, the average Dutchman thus spends about 1090 euros a year on gas costs. “Specifically, this means that with a ten percent savings, a household will spend about 109 euros less on energy costs,” Somfy said. According to them, roller shutters bring with them a high insulation value, which could significantly reduce energy bills. 

Shutters as an air buffer 

More than ever, people are looking for ways to easily insulate homes. It makes for a hearty conversation with home insulation.
