Façades 2020, a publication of facade industry association VMRG, has been published. Pearls of facades completed in the past two years play the leading role in this book.
Wouter Thijssen, the architect of the project that can be admired on the cover of Façades 2020, was allowed to receive the very first copy. Wouter Thijssen, director/architect at MVSA Architects: "We are proud that the design Danzigerkade 125 at the Houthavens in Amsterdam is on the cover of Façades 2020 as a quality facade. As MVSA Architects, we design buildings in which users feel comfortable. With that comes the VMRG Hallmark with high requirements for facades in terms of safety, comfort and durability."
Façades 2020 consists of just under 200 pages of diverse façade construction projects in which VMRG companies have been involved. The book is divided into renovation, commercial construction, residential construction and solar projects.

Each project is accompanied by a brief description, and the book also includes a number of articles. The articles in this twelfth edition of the Façades book focus on process improvement in the facade industry. It discusses the building site inspections that have been introduced within the VMRG Quality Mark, so that quality is guaranteed from manufacture to the final product installed in the building. This also prepares the VMRG Quality Mark for the Building Quality Assurance Act. Attention is also paid to the ILS Facade that was developed together with BIM specialists from various companies. These unambiguous agreements make working together in BIM easier and more efficient. Also described is the exploratory research into circular facade construction for which the VMRG has stuck its neck out. To make the facade construction process circular, it is important that the right information is available. With the newly developed application Cirlinq, also described in the book, linking information to products is not a problem.
These process improvements ultimately benefit the quality of a facade. Each project indicates whether the project was realized under the VMRG Hallmark. All companies with this quality mark deliver guaranteed quality in the field of facades. They are regularly inspected for this, both in the factory and on the building site. The European tendering directives offer scope to prescribe the VMRG Quality Mark in specifications. Every company with the VMRG Quality Mark is awarded an annual VMRG Quality Mark certificate after the inspections have been passed, so that a client can be certain that the company meets the high standards of the VMRG Quality Requirements and Recommendations.
The book is also online view. The online version contains links for each project to more information about the project and about the company that was involved in that project.
