Do you sleep better in winter than in summer? The reason for this is simple: it has to do with the fact that more daylight enters the room in summer and the temperature is higher. After all, since the dawn of time, we have preferred to sleep in a dark and cool room. Why? We explain this in this article!
Melatonin
When dusk begins to fall, your body immediately releases the hormone melatonin. This hormone prepares your body for sleep. Not only do you start to feel sleepy, but your body temperature also drops. If your bedroom is not dark enough, your brain will not receive the signal to produce melatonin, which means you will feel less sleepy.

Avoiding blue light
A well-known phenomenon: spending half an hour on your smartphone or tablet before going to sleep. Smartphones and tablets emit blue light. This blue light blocks the production of, yes, melatonin. The substance you need to fall asleep. It has been proven effective to avoid exposure to blue light for half an hour before going to sleep. So put your phone away just before bedtime or download an app that filters blue light. That app is less effective than no blue light at all, but every little bit helps!
Ensure a dark room
We previously wrote that a dark room is important for the production of melatonin. In addition, you don't want to be woken up by the first rays of morning sun on your day off. The right window decoration has made an important contribution to this. Good blackout roller blinds darkens your room for the most part. Do you need a cool bedroom? Then insulating pleated blinds are the right option. These ensure that your bedroom stays pleasantly warm in winter and nice and cool in summer.
