'Soltis Proof W88 is waterproof, lightweight and translucent'

For readers of Z&R, it is nothing new: one of the characteristic features of a pergola covering or pergola is the roof made of cloth. A pergola differs from an awning in that the roof is supported on the extension side by uprights. As a result, the pergola is more stable and wind-resistant than an awning, but less massive and intrusive than a patio covering with a glass or slatted roof, for example.

"The pergola has become an extension of the home," observes Key Account Manager Benelux Dirk Driessen of Serge Ferrari. "A fully-fledged living space that makes it possible to enjoy the outdoors regardless of weather conditions. Also not unimportant: a pergola roof also increases the value of a house." Incidentally, the hospitality industry has also now discovered the pergola phenomenon. Some hospitality businesses have managed to double or even triple the number of covered seats by using some on their terrace.

Soltis Proof W88

To protect the living space newly acquired by a pergola, Soltis Proof W88 is an innovative solution, Driessen believes. "This fabric combines high light transmission with total impermeability to the effects of bad weather, because the fabric is 100% wind- and waterproof. Moreover, Soltis Proof W88 is both thin and light. As a result, it takes up little space, which is a plus for retractable and retractable systems. Therefore, this fabric is perfect for outdoor structures, such as pergolas, zippered retractable canopies or sun sails. This versatility makes Soltis Proof W88 suitable for both private and professional applications, not least for hospitality canopies."

Soltis Proof W88 is based on the Précontraint® technology invented and patented by Serge Ferrari, which Dirk Driessen says lends a number of unique properties to the fabric:

- superior resistance to stretching and tearing
- no distortion during installation and use
- superior aesthetic and mechanical durability
- a smooth surface that can be easily cleaned

Coating

To improve their performance, awning fabrics are generally coated. "Unlike fabrics where a film, so to speak, is applied over the fabric, Soltis Proof W88 is coated with a fully translucent coating that is applied during the manufacturing process," explains Dirk Driessen. "This eliminates the risk of delamination - the loosening of the coating from the fabric - and extends its life."

The coating is completely interwoven with the Soltis Proof W88 fabric.

In addition to its high-quality mechanical and technical properties, Soltis Proof W88 has another strong feature, according to Driessen. "Thanks to its regular weave, this fabric allows a maximum amount of natural light under the canopy. Regardless of the desired color, the UV-resistant fabric allows up to 21% of light to pass through, creating atmosphere and appearance under the canopy. Therefore, the conclusion is that Soltis Proof W88 combines technical performance with creative design and has what it takes to help end users enjoy their patio canopy or awnings."

Soltis Veozip

"Finally, I would also like to draw attention to Soltis Veozip," concludes Dirk Driessen. "It is a product for screens - also with zippers - and for pergolas, with unparalleled transparency and optimal thermal properties. A special feature is that it incorporates hemp thread, giving it a natural look. More about this fabric in Serge Ferrari's contribution in the recently published Z&R Yearbook 2022-2023."
