Romazo is working with the Romazo Manufacturers and Suppliers Association to draw up a lobbying plan to put solar shading more prominently on the map with the central government, municipalities, housing corporations and housing associations. It is strange that subsidies are given on solar panels, heat pumps, insulation, etc., while they are only given on solar shading in some municipalities.
Awnings prevent overheating and heat stress in summer and have an insulating effect in winter. One in five households currently has air conditioning. A study by TU Eindhoven has shown that by using solar shading in combination with night ventilation, the house heats up to 5 to 9 degrees less. The industry wants to draw more attention to this. Romazo has therefore prepared a memorandum that members can use to approach their own municipalities to give solar shading more attention. Also in the granting of subsidies.
To emphasize the sustainability of sun protection, Romazo has had a new corporate identity since 2024. Given Romazo's focus on sustainability, a fresh green color and a new design were chosen. The website has been completely overhauled and several forms, such as the delivery document, have been changed.
Starting next academic year, there will be an optional section on awning mechanics at the ROC. Together with a number of members the course material has been prepared and an exam has been made. Companies are aging and given the developments in the industry there is a constant need for new personnel. Through the optional part, MBO students can become acquainted with the profession of awning technician. The beauty of an industry association is that its members are involved in the plans of the industry and actively participate in them. Our motto is not for nothing: for and by the members. Where previously the companies had to be enticed to become members, there has been a turnaround in recent years. Now companies join of their own accord, because they see that Romazo offers added value. For example, we had a stand during the Zonwering Expo in Houten. A number of companies spontaneously became members during the fair. Given the success and good visitor numbers, the organizers of the fair have planned another Zonwering Expo in February 2026.
One of the requirements we place on members during the biennial audit is that they have well-trained personnel. To ensure this properly, we organize a Mechanic's Day every year. This year that was at DUS! in Utrecht. Over 70 mechanics attended this sunny day. There were practical parts, such as obtaining an aerial work platform certificate and VCA and a workshop by Würth. There the mechanics were able to work in practice with new products, such as new plugs. Parts such as "Mechanic as ambassador" and "Life-saving action" could of course not be missed.
Fortunately, consumers are still finding their way to awning companies. Now that summer is upon us, this will only increase. We therefore look to the future in a bright light.
