"I already have the title," Michèl Willemse laughs. "With the sun, against the sun! That, after all, is how we characterize our new solar roller shutters and screens." It's actually quite remarkable that a relatively small player like Vera Venray is so briskly pushing the envelope. Earlier this year, its own terrace cover was launched at Polyclose and now - six months later - the company is responding to the growing interest in sustainable solar propulsion with two of its own products.
Vera Venray has developed the solar roller shutter and the solar screen in cooperation with BREL on the basis of existing products. For the roller shutter, that is existing heroal roller shutter. A battery motor and a solar panel have been added to these products. Since the battery is integrated into the motor, no additional space in the cabinet is needed for a battery or battery. This also saves installation time because there is no need to mount a separate battery.
A solar roller shutter or screen is safe because it functions autonomously, independently of the power grid. So if there is an unexpected power failure, a solar roller shutter or screen can simply be operated. Daylight is sufficient to charge the battery, even in autumn and winter. If necessary, the battery can also be charged with a DC charger, which Vera can supply.
"The batteries in a solar awning product are not subjected to extreme loads and therefore last a long time," Willemse is convinced. "We therefore give a five-year warranty on the battery motor. And should, against all odds, there ever be something wrong with it, a motor replacement is very easy thanks to a smart changeover system."
Solar products have many advantages, according to Willemse, both for the end user and the sun protection specialist. There is no need for drilling and no cables to be pulled, so there is less risk of damage. For the sun protection specialist, installation is easier and takes less time.
All sizes of the solar shutters and screens are the same as the standard programs, except that the minimum width of shutter or screen is 95 cm because of the slightly larger length of the battery motor. The motor is a 20 Nm BREL motor. "That is strong enough so that there is no limit to the size of roller shutter or screen," Willemse said.
The motor is bidirectional and features electronic final adjustment and an integrated receiver. Control can be by wall switch, remote control or with an app on smartphone or tablet. The control additionally communicates with Google Home, Alexa and with Apple's Siri, so that even voice control is possible. Vera Venray tested the solar products on his own building. "My own office has a solar screen," says Michèl Willemse. "It works perfectly!" The introduction of the solar roller shutters and screens was meticulously prepared over several months in cooperation with three selected dealers. Those preparations are now complete and all solar products are now available to all dealers.
For its screens, Vera Venray will soon introduce a new guide that can be installed behind the stucco. Vera Venray only uses blind guides that are not screwed in, but clicked from the front. In the combination with stucco this is difficult, hence a solution has been added. The new guides are still screwless, but are clicked in from the side.
Also new is an extra weighted bottom bar for more stability for extra wide or extra high screens. For cases where the screen is used backwards for practical reasons, Vera Venray can offer a new smooth back cover. The old one had a seam at the back in place of the hook-in system. With the new rear cover, this seam is no longer present and the case is still nice and flat when the screen is used upside down.
A big advantage of Vera Venray's solar program, according to Michèl Willemse, is that everything is realized on the basis of the existing roller shutter and screen program. "Everything looks sleek, with the same look as the standard program, such as guides cabinets, bottom slats and so on. That means a uniform appearance of home or building. The only difference from the regular program is that for the solar screens and shutters, due to the size of the solar panel, only straight cabinets are used.
"The fact that solar roller shutters and screens are fully compatible with the standard program is of course also an advantage for the dealer," concludes Michèl Willemse. "He doesn't have to adjust anything else or take anything into account. The only difference is that there is a solar panel on the box, which can be placed on the right or left, according to the customer's wishes. With the sun, against the sun!"
