Mosquitoes may not be the first thing one thinks of in winter. Yet observations show that mosquitoes are active throughout the winter, especially if the winter is relatively mild and lacks real frost. Moreover, a mild winter almost certainly makes for an active insect and pollen summer. "So insect screens are relevant all year round!" observes Silvia Jagtenberg of Luxaflex® Nederland.
"Mosquitoes are cold-blooded and therefore need warmth to survive. In general, they find it too cold in winter and go into hibernation. The mosquitoes that remain active seek out warm places. In the winter, we like to turn on the heating or fire up the fireplace, making indoors ideal for mosquitoes."
"There are many facts and fables about how best to repel or control mosquitoes," observes Silvia Jagtenberg. "But the best solution remains to keep windows and doors 'bug-proofed' as much as possible so they don't get in. However, it is also important to ventilate and air out to ensure a healthy indoor climate. Screens are the ideal solution to combine ventilation and insect protection."
Luxaflex® Horren have been available in the Netherlands for about sixty years now. Both in terms of hardware and mesh, much has changed and more has become possible, but in essence insect protection has remained unchanged, notes Luxaflex®.
Luxaflex® offers a wide range of fixed and insert mosquito nets. These include the Super Nova and Super Classic roller screens - also ideal for skylights, according to Silvia Jagtenberg - and sliding, hinged, rolling and pleated screen doors. Many of these screens are available with ClearView™ or Poll-tex® mesh, respectively for better vision or pollen repellent: with Poll-tex® mesh, 90% of all pollen is filtered out of the air.
Luxaflex® customizes each screen to ensure the end user has optimal insect protection. "That fact in itself is a strong selling point," observes Silvia Jagtenberg. "But because we want to give our dealers an extra helping hand, Luxaflex® will also boost screen sales this year with ample sales support, both online and through traditional media."
