Beck+Heun offers six ways to manually or electronically open a built-in roller shutter, exterior blind or vertical fabric awning in an emergency.
Requirements for escape routes vary from country to country, but the fact is that solutions must be in place to leave a building in the event of a fire, even if shutters, exterior blinds or vertical fabric awnings are closed and block an escape route. Electrically operated systems should always be able to be opened in case of fire or power failure.

The battery-powered motor is a convenient way to create an escape route. It functions either by button operation or fully automatically when connected to a smoke detector. (Source: Warema.)
Recommendations for shading escape routes
To shade escape routes, there are several options. This creates a challenge for architects and contractors to come up with a suitable solution. It must not only meet aesthetic requirements, but also ensure safety. An important aspect, for example, is intuitive operation. Beck+Heun offers six solutions for the emergency operation of built-in shutters and exterior blinds at escape routes.
- Tape solution SecuKit for roller shutters and zipscreens - SecuKit is an additional mechanical control by means of a strap, with which a lowered roller shutter or zipscreen can be opened, for example, in the event of a power failure.
- Additional operation by hand crank for shutters and outdoor blinds - The hand crank offers a mechanical alternative to a normal electrically operated roller shutter or outdoor blind.
- Roller shutter armor with break protection - Plastic shutter armor can be fitted with special, marked slats that can be easily broken from the inside to split the armor, allowing easy removal to the outside.
- Battery-powered solutions for shutters and outdoor blinds - The battery-powered solution consists of a 12 V DC motor drive, an escape module and a battery pack. The module monitors the battery charge. In the event of a power failure, the battery pack keeps the motor operable. The module and battery pack are installed behind the switch in a large, double wall box.
- Emergency power kit for outdoor blinds - The emergency power kit for exterior blinds consists of an uninterruptible power supply plus a motor controller that continuously monitors the functionality of the system. In an emergency, this allows up to three systems with 230 V drives to be operated.
- Emergency set for outdoor blinds - This set developed especially for outdoor blinds complies with DIN 18650 and is TÜV-certified. The emergency operation is triggered manually, with a push button or automatically via the fire alarm system. Remarkably, the outdoor blind is opened in about two seconds. The emergency set for external blinds consists of an additional drive with its own power supply in the external blind's cabinet and a battery-powered control. To ensure continuous safety, the intelligent controller checks all connected components, such as the motor and battery, once a day.
