Italian flair on Norderney - inviting and storm-proof
Perfect views of the North Sea beach. A strong wind often comes with it. This places special demands on the awnings. And the Big Ben parasols prove to be particularly stable here.

Italian flair on Norderney - inviting and storm-proof

With discreet elegance, Big Ben parasols defy the North Sea wind

How aesthetics and functionality harmonize to provide guests with a perfect place to enjoy themselves is shown in "Cornelius" restaurant on Norderney. Decent elegance meets constancy in weather and wind when furnishing the terrace. The Italian design of the room and the stable construction of the Caravita parasols form an ideal combination.

Pizza, pasta and the typical specialties of luxury Italian cuisine, as well as creative ice cream compositions: Thus, guests of the "Cornelius" on Norderney enjoy a wonderful view of the beach. From April to October, meals and drinks lure visitors from the North Sea island to the cozily furnished restaurant and inviting terrace - where they are always well "protected" by Caravita products. The Big Ben parasol protects the 60 seats from bright sunlight and rain thanks to its waterproof acrylic fabric.

The six large hospitality parasols are equipped with white cloths and masts that match the local design concept and have a maximum size of 5 x 7 meters. They feature heat emitters for cooler moments and LED lighting for evening hours. The Multicube 80 parasol base here not only serves as a stable base, but with a pleasant height of 87 cm, it creates additional standing room on the terrace.

This catering concept invites you to relax both during the day and in the evening. Whether for lunch, an afternoon coffee or a cocktail in the evening, everything is also ready for pure enjoyment outside thanks to the weather-independent open space.

Simple elegance is the main guideline

The catering company has existed at this location for decades. In 2018, under the name "Cornelius," it was architecturally modernized in a Mediterranean style. Italian store design, as the website states, defines the interior of the beach restaurant, which, in addition to the classic restaurant with pizzeria and café, also houses a gelateria with ice cream from its own factory.

Simple elegance is the main guideline of the complete design. And so the managers and co-owners - Cinzia Francescon, Francesco Maso and Ferruccio Magnani - deliberately chose a light, single-color version of the high-quality parasols. There should also be no logo on the fine cloth: "Too much advertising confuses the eye and distracts unnecessarily. That's why we prefer this purist version in white," says Cinzia Francescon.

For her, the aesthetics of the parasols are a key point: "These parasols from Caravita are beautiful and exude a Mediterranean flair - in keeping with our gastronomic concept and the feeling we want to convey to our guests here," continued Cinzia Francescon.

Stable parasols, even when the wind picks up

However, managers also appreciate the functional benefits of the stable parasols: On Norderney, the wind can quickly become quite strong, and wind speeds of 50 to 60 kilometers per hour are not uncommon. "In that case, we close the parasols immediately. Thanks to the integrated WMS radio motors, this happens at the touch of a button. Then even thunderstorm gusts of 120 kilometers per hour are no problem at all," says the manager and owner.

Multicube parasol bases are decisive for high stability. These gabions made of a steel basket and stone filling have the necessary own weight to anchor the parasol to the beach terrace.

Since the installation of a pergola with a fixed foundation is not allowed here anyway due to building regulations, the robust Big Ben parasol with the Multicube parasol base was the ideal solution for the "Cornelius."

Simple and elegant: this is how the restaurant "Cornelius" presents itself - including pizzeria, café and ice cream parlor. The white acrylic cloths and masts of the Caravita parasols perfectly match the overall design of the restaurant.

The best advice - if desired with the AR Designer app

Günther Sieb, an expert in equipping outdoor catering facilities at Exterra Services GmbH, provided technical planning support. He has been advising Ferruccio Magnani, co-owner of the "Cornelius" and many other catering facilities for several years. This cooperation has already proven its worth in several joint projects, and so the operators of the "Cornelius" also relied on the suggestions of Exterra Services, whose consultants specialize in the planning of sophisticated outdoor hospitality, when modernizing the terrace. This included not least the recommended wind protection with the glass partition at the edge of the patio.

The AR Designer app from parasol manufacturer Caravita is often used when planning awnings. With this free tool, all parasol implementation details - including shading over the course of the year - can be visualized in advance on a smartphone or tablet. Entire parasol groups can be planned easily and efficiently. Using the app, the parasols can be precisely tailored to local requirements.

An Italian-inspired vacation by the North Sea? Thanks to the Big Ben parasols from Caravita, "dolce vita" is also possible not far away at the most beautiful time of the year in the "Cornelius" on Norderney.
