The association of facade builders VMRG has put the latest VMRG Quality Requirements and Opinions online as of October 1, 2019. The requirements are constantly updated to new standards and regulations, to the latest technology, and they are becoming more comprehensive. In the new 2020 version, a chapter on BIM has been added and adjustments have been made in the area of solar shading.
“The VMRG Quality Requirements are the requirements for the VMRG Hallmark,” said VMRG Director Hans Zwaanenburg. “The VMRG Hallmark is prescribed by architects in specifications to be sure of quality facades.” Facades and facade elements supplied by companies with this quality mark are guaranteed to meet the requirements that can be found on the VMRG's entirely new communication platform, www.vmrg.nl/kwaliteitseisen These companies are inspected on this by an independent organization. All facade builders affiliated with the VMRG have the VMRG Quality Mark.
BIM (Building Information Modeling) is the sharing of information between different construction and production partners. However, this requires clear agreements about the process, meaning of information, form, exchange and format. From the VMRG, a BIM Implementation Plan and BIM Protocol have been developed that are in line with the already existing documents from the Building Information Council (BIR) and the existing European standards. Work is still in progress on the ILS (Information Delivery Specifications) Facade Products. BIM forms a new chapter in the VMRG Quality Requirements. It includes the BIM Implementation Plan, the BIM Protocol and the ILS Facade Products. Also, all BIM-specific terms have been included in the Naming section so that different parties work with the same definitions for a given term. Finally, standards have also been added to the List of Standards.
For exterior awnings, a number of examples of cloths at zipper screens are included. These are photos with explanations that clarify what is permissible within the VMRG Quality Requirements for this type of awning. Sun protection has been part of the VMRG Quality Requirements for many years. Sun-protection companies that are affiliated with the VMRG and have been tested on the VMRG Sunprotection Quality Requirements may call themselves VMRG Sunprotection companies and can demonstrate their quality with a VMRG Sunprotection certificate.
As of October 1, 2019, the 2020 requirements are online. Officially, they do not take effect until January 1, 2020, but a user is free to declare the 2020 VMRG Quality Requirements applicable now.
