The resident of tomorrow is awake to different issues than the resident of yesterday and today. After all, our society is evolving. Regulations on energy performance, among other things, are becoming increasingly stringent, and clients are also becoming more demanding. Architects, project developers and clients have to take tomorrow's challenges into account today. Renson tries to help them with innovative solutions for sun protection, night cooling, ventilation and building automation.
Although there has been a clear trend in recent years to live outdoors as much as possible, we still spend 85% of our time indoors. Whether we feel good about ourselves and can comfortably enjoy the time we spend indoors depends on many factors, such as good air quality, adequate daylight, a pleasant indoor temperature and a minimum of noise and drafts from outside. "We strive to create a healthy and comfortable living and working environment for every person," states Paul Renson, CEO of the ventilation, sun protection and patio cover specialist. "Moreover, we also want to capitalize on the trend toward smart living, in which buildings will automatically adapt to user behavior in the future."
A pleasant indoor temperature is crucial for human, animal and plant comfort. However, global warming is causing more and more hot days and heat waves every year, so we need to look for solutions to control indoor temperatures. An energy-guzzling air conditioner is out of the question, as it results in rising CO2-emissions and in the longer term in even more heat waves.
Renson has developed a smart total solution for passive and sustainable cooling by combining outdoor shading and intensive night ventilation (night cooling). "By cleverly deploying natural and energy-friendly elements such as light and air, indoors can be kept pleasantly cool even at warm times," Paul Renson points out. "Managing daylight is child's play with our dynamic and wind-resistant Fixscreen fabric awning. It is also the most efficient solution to prevent it from heating up quickly indoors, because exterior blinds block the sun's rays before they even have a chance to reach the glass. On the other hand, larger streams of fresh outside air can serve to cool the inside at night. For this purpose, we use large window grilles with mosquito netting and burglar-resistant slats. The combination of the Fixscreen exterior blinds and nightcooling can lower the interior temperature by up to 10°, without the use of air conditioning."
In addition to a pleasant indoor temperature, indoor air quality also plays an important role, Paul Renson emphasizes. "Ventilating on a continuous basis is a must to achieve a healthy indoor climate. With Renson's window vents, fresh outside air is continuously supplied into the home, without bothering with drafts and outside noise. Today we present the new Invisivent Comfort ventilation grille with self-regulating check valve and acoustic insulation. It ensures a controlled supply, especially in combination with the smart Healthbox 3.0 exhaust unit, which as a 'moderator' within the ventilation system C+ indicates non-stop exactly how much fresh air is needed. Since ventilation is only demand-controlled and room-by-room, there is no draught at all. Moreover, this ventilation grid is designed in such a way that it can be concealed invisibly in the facade and can also be placed on the window as one airtight unit."
Innovation is one of the key words within Renson, and the company is now also responding to the growing trend toward intelligent homes and buildings. Thanks to the recent acquisition of OpenMotics, a specialist in building automation, Renson now has its own concrete cloud solution for the realization of intelligent buildings. This cloud platform - a kind of app store of buildings - bundles everything for intelligent living. In the process, a building learns over time from the behavior of its occupants and/or users and adjusts the services and techniques, such as ventilation, shading, heating, lighting and cooling, accordingly.
