The SBZ 125/85 is one of the most recent novelties in the portfolio of the German machine manufacturer. This system is related to the successful model SBZ 122/75 and makes profile machining even more productive, efficient and safe - in large companies as well as SMEs.
With this SBZ 125/85 you choose a robust and versatile machining center with a reach of 8245 mm on the X axis, 300 mm on the Y axis and 230 mm on the Z axis. It includes 5 CNC axes, a water-cooled 7 kW milling spindle with up to 20000 rpm and an automatic magazine with 12 tool positions.
"To prevent damage, all operations, such as sawing, milling, drilling and tapping, are performed on a stationary clamped profile," states Bas Ladestein, managing director of elumatec Benelux BV. "Thanks to its dynamic pendulum operation, this machine can machine pieces on one side while the operator feeds new profiles on the other. Moreover, long profiles that extend beyond the center of the SBZ 125/85 can still be machined. Furthermore, we integrated an innovative technology, which ensures that tool changes take less time. When designing, the elumatec team also paid great attention to ergonomics and operator safety. For example, the adjustment of the clamps for clamping profiles was simplified and optimized. Sliding material clamps on the Y axis improve ergonomics when inserting profiles. The clamp automatically switches between loading and machining position. The workpiece thus moves to the center of the machine before machining. In this position, it can then be machined optimally by the tools. The machine can also be changed quickly and without tools to other profile widths and shapes.
"The new rotatable control console also simplifies the operator's life. It was designed as a rotating column with a height-adjustable screen, allowing it to be moved to an optimal position at all times. In this way, operators also have an unobstructed view at all times, which promotes safety," Ladestein adds.
"Actually, cab models are very popular because they reduce noise and retain chips. With an optional chip conveyor, coarse chips and profile parts can be immediately directed to a bin, keeping 'the interior' of the machine clean. However, opting for a machine with an enclosed cab also eliminates the need to install other safety systems, such as fences, around the machine. And that, in turn, reduces the footprint on the shop floor. A flexibly programmable laser with three-zone layout provides access protection."
