Advanced climate control in botanical greenhouses

After four years of work, the Greenhouse Garden opened in the Shanghai Expo Culture Park in 2024. This impressive 40,000-square-meter complex houses five themed greenhouses. Hundreds of species of flowers and plants grow here, from common specimens to extremely rare species. To ensure a stable climate and prevent overheating, the greenhouse structure is equipped with Serge Ferrari's Soltis 92 Color cloths.

The design combines steel and glass, which not only honors the industrial history of the site (it was originally a steel mill), but also highlights the symbiosis between architecture and nature. The striking round skylights create a dynamic play of light and shadow, with which the architects aimed to achieve a balance between modernity and natural harmony.

Optimal living conditions with Soltis 92 Color

A major challenge within this project was ensuring a stable and suitable climate for the fragile plant collections. The solution was found in Soltis 92 Color by Serge Ferrari. "For a project like this, you need to choose a fabric that can effectively regulate the intense solar heat without completely blocking natural light," explains Marcos Santos, Key Account Manager Solar Protection Benelux. "Soltis 92 Color filters up to 97% of the sun's heat while providing excellent UV protection. This not only helps prevent overheating, but also contributes to the visual comfort of visitors."

In addition, Soltis 92 Color is known for its durable color fastness and high mechanical resistance. "This membrane maintains its shape and performance even under the challenging conditions of a botanical greenhouse," Santos continued. "This allows us to guarantee a controlled climate, resulting in energy savings and optimal growing conditions for the plants."
