With an aluminum plate as a base, almost any pattern is conceivable

“Everyone's trade is sometimes said. During the development of Fractions, it became clear once again that our strength is in engineering,” Unilux director Patrick van Loosbroek observes. “At a certain point we realized that we would be better off finding a real specialist for the design. By collaborating with top designer Osiris Hertman, we have set a new direction for Fractions.” The collaboration with Osiris Hertman and the resulting new line were presented at the VT Wonen & Design fair at RAI Amsterdam in early October. 

Make hay while the sun shines

“Fractions are unique aluminum shutters,” Van Loosbroek emphasizes again. “They are applied as exclusive window decoration in mostly high-end interiors and projects. By squeezing the light entering through the slits, a special incidence of light is created in a room. Fractions offer the possibility to play with the light, creating a true dance of moving patterns of light and shadow.” 

From the very first prototypes, Fractions has sought to fully exploit all the technical advantages of aluminum. “Unique in the world of window decoration,” said Van Loosbroek. “Magnificently conceived, but eighties design,” was Osiris Hertman's confrontational response when first introduced to Fractions. “And that was what we also saw,” Van Loosbroek now responds. “Osiris convinced us that the design so far unnecessarily resembled the familiar blinds, traditional wooden shutters and roller blinds. But with the aluminum sheet as the basis, almost any pattern is conceivable, was his credo. So why not precisely a distinctive shape? It was there that our specialties touched, with Fractions Design by Osiris Hertman as the result!”

Since this year, Osiris Hertman and Fractions have been working together to go one step further in lighting experience by combining functionality and design. Top designer Osiris Hertman has created seven designs for Fractions based on the play of daylight and shadow. “The seven patterns are all different and each gives a different atmosphere to the space,” Osiris explains. “It's warm, sensual, playful and powerful. You can vary enormously with the light intensity - playing with light - by opening the shutters more or slightly less and creating a busier or quieter pattern. At the same time, you can create less or more privacy.  υ

The shadow patterns that these seven Fractions project on floor, wall and ceiling are reminiscent of the rays of light from lamps with perforations from Asia and North African countries, such as Morocco, among others. Result: a bold yet sophisticated product with a cosmopolitan feel.” 

“Osiris” elegant designs, in which his love for craftsmanship and natural materials is evident, combined with Fractions“ technical know-how make this Design By Osiris Hertman line a unique window decoration,” Patrick van Loosbroek believes. “They give the interior an extra dimension. The sleek panels are true eye-catchers and provide a luxurious look.” Fractions can be powder coated in numerous colors and also in metallic or textured paint. Osiris has issued a color recommendation for each model. "This makes Fractions even more distinctive and easier to combine with different interior styles," said Van Loosbroek. 

Made in Holland

Fractions are ‘Made in Holland. Where most manufacturers outsource abroad, this product is produced in Boxtel. ’This keeps the lines of communication short in all respects, which creates many advantages in terms of delivery times,“ states Van Loosbroek. ”This method of working fits completely within the vision regarding efficient production methods, sustainable use of materials and limiting the footprint that we share with Osiris.“
