Outdoor Shading Category: The 2026 Z&R Award goes to CORNELS for its innovative modular patio cover

“Als ik heel eerlijk ben… dan had ik wel het gevoel dat we een serieuze kans maakten op het winnen van de Z&R Award 2026 in de categorie buitenzonwering”, zegt ondernemer Cornelis Nieuwenhuis van het Nieuw-Vennepse CORNELS bij de uitreiking. “Maar nu de Award ook daadwerkelijk bij ons in de showroom staat, voelt het toch steeds weer – als we ernaar kijken – als een serieuze bevestiging dat we op de goede weg zijn met onze innovaties. En eerlijk is eerlijk: het heeft best wel een aantal jaren geduurd voordat we op dit niveau zaten.”

De ‘POLLUX CORNELS® Elite serie’ – het winnende product – is een hoogwaardige, modulaire terrasoverkapping voor exclusief buitenleven. Elk onderdeel sluit perfect op elkaar aan. “We zijn een jonge fabrikant”, zegt de pas 32-jarige Cornelis. “Het is mooi dat we gezien worden. En dit is ook echt een product dat tot stand is gekomen op basis van veel feedback van de markt. We horen geen klachten, geen problemen en geen vragen over montage. Eigenlijk ontvangen we louter positieve respons vanuit onze dealers. Nou, dan weet je dus dat het product goed is!” Toch zegt Cornelis ook dat “een product nooit klaar is.” Een goede doorontwikkeling is en blijft een must. “De basis is in ieder geval goed gelegd. Die zal nu niet meer zo snel veranderen.”

Team effort

Cornelis also emphasizes that it has been an incredible team effort over the past few years. “Of course, I’d like to mention my colleagues Dennis Griffioen, Jarle van de Water, and Linda van der Leer. “From the technological input and research to carefully considering how we shape our marketing… in the end, we do it all together. The Award, which we’re truly very proud of, is therefore for all of us. The outlook is also good. Production takes place in Turkey, which allows us to compete effectively with European market leaders. Personally, I spend about a week every month in the Istanbul area—where our factory is located—and there, too, I see plenty of passion and enthusiasm for striving for the highest quality. And I can tell you one thing: our Turkish colleagues are also incredibly proud of winning this award.”

Erik Imming—project manager of the Z&R trade platform at Louwers Mediagroep—presented the award in the showroom in Nieuw-Vennep. “We received many entries from the market this year for this edition of the Z&R Award. So CORNELS faced quite a bit of competition in that regard. But the jury was clear: in the outdoor sun protection category, the ‘POLLUX CORNELS® Elite Series’ stood out.”
