Thinking Beyond the Existing Cubist Framework

No doubt you’ve been captivated by the iconic movie *Back to the Future* at some point. In this classic, the striking DeLorean (DMC 12) steals the show. A car like that deserves a place in the future to shelter from rain, wind, hail, or storms… or worse! Back to the future, because that place is here now. Deponti presents two carports in the Pinela Series. After all, every car deserves the best at home. In conversation with Knoed Horck, head of Deponti’s R&D department, we unravel the secret behind this development and discover the opportunities in the market.

Anything new?

In a sense, a carport is nothing new. Many car enthusiasts want a spot at home where their car stays dry and isn’t exposed to the elements. At the same time, Knoed and his team saw enormous potential in further developing this type of outdoor solution. “While designing the carports, we knew we were looking for something modern—something forward-thinking. And above all, something that creates a powerful interplay between the car, architecture, and outdoor space.” The answer was right under our noses. “The Pinela Series is our building block for the future. It was therefore a logical step to build on this cubist framework to create the carport of the future.”

More than just a canopy

The carports from the Pinela Series enhance the living environment around the home. “The car is part of everyday life and, as such, also part of the appearance of every home. In our view, a solution for this had to reinforce the interplay between the car and architecture, so that they form a unified whole,” says Knoed. “The cubist design of the Pinela Series plays a key role in this. Clean lines, a timeless design, and an aesthetic that blends effortlessly with both modern and classic architecture. The result is the Pinela Carport and the Pinela Delight Carport, the latter of which is characterized by a more subtle frame.”

Looking to the future

Once under the canopy, the modern and understated design catches the eye. It raises the question of what technical choices were made. “We opted for a steel roof structure and an anti-condensation felt layer. After all, it would be a shame if condensation dripped onto your freshly washed car,” says Knoed with a smile. “Comfort lies precisely in those kinds of details.” Another notable feature is the structure’s high load-bearing capacity. “That opens the door to future-oriented applications. For example, it’s possible to equip the structure with solar panels or a green sedum roof. This allows you, as a creator of outdoor living spaces, to think ahead about the future^­”your customer's conscious choices."

An opportunity for the outdoor living collection

The strength of Pinela Carports lies in forward thinking. “Outdoor living doesn’t stop at the garden table or the canopy,” says Knoed. “The car also deserves a place within that bigger picture—where architecture, outdoor space, and mobility reinforce one another.” With that in mind, it makes sense that a carport is part of any outdoor living collection.
