When planning a detached family home in Biedenkopf, Hesse, Germany, great importance was placed on modern design. In addition to the high level of functionality regarding the house's climate control, the linear design with a flat roof played a major role. The cubic slatted roof from weinor completes the picture and adds a weatherproof outdoor space to the building. The German brand weinor is the market leader in Northern Europe in sun and weather protection on the terrace, providing high-quality protection for modern outdoor living.
The homeowner attached great importance to one thing: the weather protection for his 25 m² terrace had to be integrated as seamlessly as possible into the consistent cubic structure. What he was looking for, he found at weinor. Thanks to its linear design, the Artares slatted roof blends in perfectly with the building architecture.
The principle of "form follows function" was paramount in the planning of the 215-square-meter home built in 2019. The slatted roof had to meet these requirements in every respect. "In addition to high functionality, quality and durability are of course also important to us," reports the homeowner. He emphasizes, "But the design is crucial!" The cubic shape of the roof was the main requirement for the slat roof to ensure that it would fit perfectly with the house and its linear design. "When looking for a suitable solution, we ruled out all other alternatives, such as tension sails, a pergola awning or patio cover made of glass for visual reasons," says the homeowner. Thanks to the large selection of more than 200 frame colors, an anthracite hue was quickly found to perfectly match the home's other design elements, such as window frames and shutters.
When planning his weather protection for the patio, the homeowner wanted to leave nothing to chance. A few years earlier, he had met specialist dealer Achim Pelz of Pelz-Terrassenwelt in Breidenbach, who introduced him to the weinor brand. "After a visit to Mr. Pelz's showroom and a presentation of the showroom models, we were convinced it had to be an Artares," says the homeowner.
Thanks to the rotating slats, the amount of light under the canopy can be adjusted individually when the sun shines. The temperature can also be controlled in this way: if it gets too hot under the canopy, the occupants simply open the slats and heated air flows upwards. Thus, the climate on the terrace can be controlled simply by tilting the slats. There is also a clever solution for rain: rainwater is channelled into gutters through the slightly sloping roof and drained in a controlled manner down through the uprights. "It was especially important to us that we could use the terrace in all weather conditions," reports the homeowner. "Now we enjoy protection from excessive sunlight in the summer and from rain in the spring and fall."
